Well shortly after Antares announces Auto-Tune EFX for $50.00, they release the EFX 2 Plug-in with major upgrades.
I actually took advantage of the EFX 1 promotion and bought the plug-in and I must say, its a quick fix for a rough vocal track but not an end-all-be-all solution to get a final vocal product out. Having said that, I think this update is a step in the right direction for a great price. Now if we can just get people to stop abusing it, we’ll be in business.
Antares Audio Technologies has announced the availability of Auto-Tune EFX 2. Powered by the same core technology as Antares’ professional standard Auto-Tune 7, Auto-Tune EFX 2 is the newest generation of the quickest, easiest-to-use tool for real-time pitch correction and creating the iconic Auto-Tune Vocal Effect. And now, with its new Auto-Motion™ Vocal Pattern Generation, musicians can add a variety of intricate musical patterns to their tracks for an entirely new (and sonically dramatic) vocal effect.
Designed to make almost everything automatic, Auto-Tune EFX 2 provides two different flavors of the Auto-Tune Vocal Effect as well as Antares’ world-renown real-time pitch correction. Musicians simply select their desired effect type, set the key and scale of their track, and Auto-Tune EFX does the rest. For songs with complex chord progressions or modulations, users can optionally set up custom scales or use their host’s automation facility to allow the processing of virtually any vocal line.
Pitch Correction
Like Auto-Tune 7, Auto-Tune EFX 2’s pitch correction works by continuously tracking the pitch of a vocal and comparing it to the notes in a (customizable) scale. The scale note closest to the input pitch is identified as the target note. If the vocal’s pitch exactly matches the target note, no correction is applied. If the vocal’s pitch varies from the target note, either sharp or flat, the output pitch is smoothly corrected to the target note
Auto-Tune Vocal Effect
Made wildly popular by artists in virtually every genre of popular music, the Auto-Tune Vocal Effect is what is technically known as “pitch quantization.” Instead of allowing all of the small variations in pitch and the gradual transitions between notes that are a normal part of singing, the Auto-Tune Vocal Effect limits each note to an exact pitch, stripping out any variation, as well as forcing instantaneous transitions between notes.
Auto-Motion Vocal Pattern Generation
Auto-Motion Vocal Pattern Generation is a new effect that takes advantage of Auto-Tune’s superb pitch-shifting ability to add intricate musical patterns to a vocal performance. Patterns are selected from a built-in (and expandable) library in a variety of styles and can be synced to a host’s tempo at various beat divisions. At any point in a vocal track, simply clicking the Auto-Motion Trigger button sends a vocal on a melodic adventure.
With Auto-Tune EFX 2, musicians are not limited to just the built-in Auto-Motion patterns. Since Auto-Tune EFX 2’s patterns are stored in a dedicated file in standard MusicXML format, users can use any application that can open and edit MusicXML files (including a selection of free open-source apps) to edit existing patterns and create entirely new patterns of their own. So each user’s vocal tracks can always feature their own unique Auto-Motion effects
Auto-Tune EFX 2 is available now for RTAS (Mac OS X and PC), VST (Mac OS X and PC) and Audio Units (Mac OS X) at a U.S. MSRP of $129.00. Macintosh versions require Intel processors.
Upgrades to Auto-Tune EFX 2 are available for purchase and download by current registered Auto-Tune EFX owners (including owners of the Auto-Tune EFX Vocal Toolkit and the Auto-Tune EFX Vocal Suite) for $39.00.
