Eventide Blackhole Reverb for Native Instruments NKS

Eventide’s Blackhole Reverb began as a stomp pedal and eventually became a VST, AU, AAX Plugin. The unique algorithm produces reverbs usually not found in conventional plugins. Now this plugin can be used directly with Native Instruments NKS standard.

LITTLE FERRY, NJ, USA: recording technology trailblazer Eventide is proud to announce that its popular Blackhole reverb plug-in is now NKS-ready — reconfigured to support Native Instruments’ Native Kontrol Standard extended plug-in format for use with MASCHINE and KOMPLETE KONTROL keyboards and software — as of April 18…
As reflected in its updated GUI (Graphical User Interface), Blackhole is part of Eventide’s H9 Plug-In Series designed with live performance in mind. The Ribbon control can be mapped to any combination of parameters giving a performer a single control over a world of effects. Integration with the NKS platform makes the Ribbon an integral part of the performer’s instrument.
Whereas most reverbs are constrained by the physics of the real world, Blackhole creates virtual spaces that could never exist in reality. It can turn a simple drum track into an otherworldly rhythm section. Capable of creating epic soundscapes, space-warping special effects and drones, Blackhole can cover spaces as small as a room and as large as space itself.
Features
  • Easy to use interface and more than 50 presets, including some by Eventide artists: Richard Devine, Vernon Reid, Flood & Alan Moulder, Jonsi & Alex (Sigur Rós), and John Agnello.
  • Unique Gravity control reverses the arrow of time by inverting the reverb’s decay.
  • Innovative Ribbon and Hotswitch allow for changing any combination of parameters simultaneously.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Eventide, a brand famous for their high-quality, creative FX, on the NKS platform and deeply integrated into our KOMPLETE KONTROL and MASCHINE eco-systems,” says Native Instruments’ Ray Chemo.
“We’re delighted to add our ‘special sauce’ to Native Instruments’ eco-system,” enthuses Eventide Software Developer Tom Longabaugh, continuing: “It will be exciting to discover ways in which Blackhole will be used in both live performance and in music production by a community of artists who have yet to discover the universe of effects that we’re known for.”
The now-NKS-ready Blackhole is available — as an AAX/AU/VST plug-in for Mac OS X 10.7+ and Windows 7+ — at a promo price of $69.00 USD until May 31, 2018 (rising thereafter to an MSRP of $199.00 USD) from Eventide dealers and its website: https://www.eventideaudio.com

Melodyne Coming to Logic via ARA 2

Celemony makes a triumphant arrival into Apple’s Logic DAW Via their new ARA 2 interface extension.

Celemony GmbH, Munich, January 25th, 2018 – (ictw) – At NAMM 2018 Celemony announced today that with Logic Pro X 10.4, Apple is supporting the ARA 2 interface extension. The corresponding Melodyne version is currently undergoing beta testing and will appear shortly.
The ARA support in Logic offers instant access to tracks in Melodyne without the hassle of transfers, a considerably faster Melodyne workflow when moving, looping or copying regions, and various simplifications of project management. Furthermore, Melodyne can now be introduced at an earlier stage of the comping process: when selecting and comparing takes.
Logic’s ARA support is based on the new ARA 2 specification, but for a plug-in to take advantage of this, it, too, must support ARA 2. A version of Melodyne that does this is currently undergoing beta testing and should be available soon. The current version of Melodyne (v. 4.1) will, of course, still run in Logic 10.4 but without ARA, so in this case transfers are still necessary.

Celemony Announces ARA 2

Celemony has released version 2 of its Audio Random Access extension. This interface extension gives more intuitive communication between compatible DAWs and plugins.

Celemony GmbH, Munich, January 25th, 2018 – (ictw) – At NAMM 2018 Celemony today announced Version 2 of the acclaimed ARA (Audio Random Access) Plug-In Extension. The ARA interface extension allows plug-ins and DAWs to communicate more comprehensively with one another and therefore work far better together. Now Celemony is announcing a new version, ARA 2, which has even greater possibilities.
With ARA 2, the exchange of information between DAWs and plug-ins is even more comprehensive, which makes additional applications possible. The new ARA 2 specification allows, among other things, the simultaneous editing of multiple tracks, the transfer of chord track information between the DAW and the plug-in, seamless clip borders that make the manual setting of crossfades superfluous, Undo interlocking with the DAW, and much else besides.
To profit from the new possibilities, both programs – the DAW and the plug-in – must support the ARA 2 specification. Fortunately, ARA 2 is considerably more flexible and can be integrated more easily into a multitude of DAWs as well as supported by a very wide variety of plug-ins. What features then become available depends, of course, upon the specific plug-in and DAW in each case involved; one pairing may allow only simple sound editing, another perhaps even automatic tempo and harmony adjustments.
Celemony is holding out the prospect of the spring release of a version of Melodyne with ARA 2 – the beta-testing has already begun. ARA 2 was developed in collaboration with established as well as new ARA partners. The first implementations have already been announced: one development partner, Presonus, for example, is currently working on a version of Studio One featuring the new technology and also Cockos has announced ARA 2 integration for Reaper. Apple, with its Logic Pro X 10.4, has already presented at the NAMM show ARA support based on ARA 2.

Impact Soundworks Meditation

Everyone can use a dash of unique acoustic instruments. Meditation utilizes mallet instruments for a library of bells, harps and marimbas.

FULTON, MD, USA: audio software creator Impact Soundworks is proud to announce availability of MEDITATION — an aptly-titled and affecting collection of supremely-sampled acoustic mallet, gong, and glass sounds, creatively combined with a revolutionary KONTAKT-based additive synthesizer allowing adventurous users to craft an endless variety of evolving and subtle tones, perfect for film scoring applications alongside ambient and atmospheric music creation — as of February 5…
Conceptually, MEDITATION is a revolutionary sampled virtual instrument library for Native Instruments’ industry-standard KONTAKT platform, perfectly positioned to produce an infinite variety of unique mallet, bell, and key tones. Creatively, it cleverly combines a treasure trove of unique acoustic sound sources — such as Aquarion, Boltophone, Brass Urn, Crotales, Gamelan Ensemble, Glass Gong, Glockenspiel, Kenong, Koto Harmonic Pluck, Marimba, Muted Prayer Bowl, Pipe Harp, Pot Lids, Rubber Mallets, Shou Drum Brushed, Stonaphone, Toy Piano, Tubular Bells, Vibraphone, Violin Pick, and Waterglasses (hand-picked from other critically-acclaimed Impact Soundworks libraries like CURIO, MOMENTUM, and RESONANCE, along with some new material) — with an additive synthesis layer, representing the first of its kind in a KONTAKT instrument!
Though the MEDITATION library itself includes in-depth synth parameters with modulation tweaking aplenty, average users do not need to be an additive synthesis expert to enjoy it. Included are a wide variety of presets to affect and inspire; indeed, adjusting basic parameters of each sound is very easy, thanks to the always-admirable design work of Impact Soundworks Lead Designer Andrew Aversa and his sterling scripting team (Mario Krušelj and Nabeel Ansari).
As such, MEDITATION’s gorgeous GUI (Graphical User Interface) is as easy on the eye as it is easy to use. Duly divided into two primary layer panels, the left one contains controls for the Acoustic Layer — centred around a SOUNDSOURCE menu (revealing all available acoustic sound sources) with associated knobs for adjusting its VOL (volume), PAN (panning), TUNE (tuning), and TRANS (transposition), while additive synthesis- centric controls reside in the right layer.
Like its acoustic counterpart, the so-called Synthetic Layer features a row of straightforward settings, starting with a WAVEFORM menu for selecting one of three (sine, sawtooth, or square) waveforms alongside associated knobs to adjust its VOL and PAN. Four more controls are dedicated to INHARMONICITY — the degree to which the frequencies of overtones (or partials) depart from the fundamental frequency (harmonic series). Saying that, the ODD and EVEN knobs set the detuning of the odd and even partials — perfect for creating more gong-like tones. The ‘leaf’ button initiates an Eco Mode, preventing triggering of partials that are initially silent, while the ‘tuning fork’ (Pure Partials) button adjusts the base tuning of all partials to just/pure intonation.
Digging deeper, the Synthetic Layer’s central section houses VOLUME and PAN tables for the partials. Users can draw in their own curves for one of two states (STATE 1 and STATE 2) and even morph between those states by activating the MORPH button. Beyond that, the ‘gearwheel’ button brings into play another menu of preset options while the ‘dice’ (Randomize) buttons randomise the curves for each table. In short, 24 partials can be adjusted in real-time, along with per-partial panning!
Both layer panels also feature filter and envelope controls for further shaping the sound sources. There are envelope controls for PITCH, FILTER and AMP, including: A (attack), H (hold), D (decay), S (sustain), and R (release) sliders, a VEL (velocity) knob, a CURVE control, and an AMT (amount) knob (for PITCH and FILTER envelopes only).
Of course, those controls may sound complex to some, yet Impact Soundworks collectively encourages MEDITATION users — average or otherwise — to give them a try. The resulting sounds are sure to impress!
In keeping with many of its Impact Soundworks software siblings, MEDITATION includes the company’s trademark easy-to-use FX Rack — featuring EQ, COMPRESSOR, TRANSIENT DESIGNER, SCREAM, BITCRUSHER, DELAY, REVERB, and LIMITER — that also creatively connects to the Mod Matrix, itself allowing for highly-flexible routing of modulators — such as generated LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) and MIDI CC (Continuous Controller) messages — to all the FX controls.
To conclude: creating instant variation without any prior experience is a given with MEDITATION, yet it also offers experienced users so much creative control. Combined with that powerful analogue/digital FX Rack, making meditative musical moods or simply crafting beautiful sounds is, indeed, perfectly possible — regardless of experience! Another amazing balancing act from a class act.
MEDITATION can be purchased and digitally downloaded directly from Impact Soundworks for $49.00 USD from here:https://impactsoundworks.com/product/meditation/#purchase
Note that MEDITATION requires the full version of Native Instruments KONTAKT (Version 5.5.2 or higher).
For more in-depth information, including several superb-sounding audio demos, please visit the dedicated MEDITATION webpage here: https://impactsoundworks.com/product/meditation/#details

Audified DW Drum Enhancer

Audified have cooked up a brand new All-in-One solution to processing drums with the DW Drum Enhancer. This plugin was developed in conjunction with DW Drums to tame and enhance the entire drum experience.

BOSKOVICE, CZECH REPUBLIC: audio software and hardware effects developer Audified is proud to deliver DW Drum Enhancer — an aptly-named, all-in-one drum processing plug-in par excellence evolved in close collaboration with DWe (DW Electronics), a acclaimed brand belonging to family-owned American professional drums, pedals, and hardware manufacturer Drum Workshop, Inc. (DW®), designed to enable users to significantly speed up their work with wonderful results workable within seconds, thanks to carefully-crafted combinations of parameters provided by a true doyen of DW® content, Chris Denogean — as of January 22…
Arising as a result of a creative combination of Audified’s tried-and-tested technology and acknowledged DW® know-how, DW Drum Enhancer is billed as being the only drum processing tool that anyone would ever need to get the drum sound of their dreams, designed to process the basic drum sound spectrum. Put it this way: without DW Drum Enhancer, achieving any drum sound worth its weight in (musical) gold almost always necessitated the now-unnecessary utilisation of several different plug-ins to gate, compress, and EQ it to the heart’s content — clearly easier said than done. After all, when all is said and done, we’re talking about having to carefully match levels between the various plug-ins involved in doing so while fine-tuning the overall sound via several simultaneous windows, which is surely something of an audio headache. However, it definitely doesn’t have to be like that, thanks to DW Drum Enhancer.
Easing the drum processing pain by effectively simplifying and streamlining the effects processing chain, DW Drum Enhancer is not simply one effect. Far from it, in fact. For DW Drum Enhancer encompasses several EQs and compressors (including a model of classic solid state compressor circuits) when getting its musical mojo working. When working with DW Drum Enhancer users can choose their desired Drum type settings using the 12-position selector that includes three types of drums (SNARE, KICK, and TOMS), each with three (Modern, Heavy, and Vintage) variations. The remaining three (OTHER) positions are arranged as follows: OH (overheads); Bus, for servicing the whole set (usually in a mixing console group); and Room, intended for processing whole drum kits recorded by two microphones. Meanwhile, each selection automatically applies appropriate settings, such as EQ type, slope, and frequency; Comp (compressor) type, attack, release, and knee shape; noise Gate attack and release, and sidechain filter. Fortunately, this makes for a speedy, straightforward workflow while also allowing for further fine-tuning through the use of easily accessible additional controls courtesy of a stunningly-photorealistic GUI (Graphical User Interface) that’s as easy on the eye as it is easy to use.
Usefully, oval buttons are perfectly positioned at the top of DW Drum Enhancer’s Gate, Comp, and EQ ‘modules’ to turn them on and off. Of course, each module makes several standard controls readily available to the tweaker-happy user, with the exact parameter of whatever is being changed clearly visible in the left-hand display. Gate is armed and ready to remove unwanted audio material below a certain threshold (turning the signal off when only hum or noise is present); Comp limits the dynamic range of the incoming signal (applied once the volume of the incoming signal exceeds the Threshold control setting, while the Mix knob adjusts the parallel mixing level and adjacent Make-up knob compensates for average volume); EQ adjusts the Hi, Mid, and Low frequency amounts (alongside an EQ Position switch to set it before or after the compressor, while HP and LP buttons switch high-pass and lowpass filters on or off).
On top of that, DW Drum Enhancer embraces an advanced model of real valve saturation circuitry. The oval Sat button turns saturation on or off while the big saturation knob adjusts the amount of saturation being applied with higher levels adding harmonics to the incoming signal. Similarly straightforward, specific buttons change the tube circuit, affecting the point at which it kicks in and also its frequency response. The following selections are available: Presence (higher amount of signal on mid-high frequencies to best facilitate cutting through the mix), Vintage (smoother highs and more even harmonics), Brown (an almost flat frequency response with only light high frequency rolloff and higher harmonic punch), White (higher amount of signal on higher frequencies and a balanced ratio between the even and odd harmonics), and LoFi (less low and high frequencies). All add colour, warmth, and sonic character based on Audified’s precise circuit modelling technology. This imbues any drum track with a true-to-life feel and an all-natural analogue sound, without shying away from its side effects — exactly the same as with all Audified plug-ins.
Putting DW Drum Enhancer to work… well, it clearly couldn’t be easier: one click sets up the system, then the dream drum sound-seeker conceivably only needs to think about applying some fine-tuning and gentle saturation to their sound, saving time, insert slots, and CPU (Central Processing Unit) load.
Little wonder, though, that DW Drum Enhancer’s provided presets for almost all occasions are an even speedier, sure-fire way of achieving a dream drum sound since they were professionally prepared to the highest standard in DW®’s dedicated studio by trusty audio engineer Chris Denogean. Duly responsible for almost all DW® content, having also recorded some of the world’s best drummers, DW Drum Enhancer users of all abilities further benefit from his specialised skills since there is no need to search for EQ sweet spots when working with the plug-in as its EQ section has helpfully been carefully crafted in collaboration with the talented DW® engineer, enabling the associated Hi, Mid, and Low frequencies and HP and LP filter behaviour to be dependent on the Drum type selected. Similarly, compressor type, knee, and times are also dependent on the Drum type selected while the tweak-able, intelligent Gate helps remove the unwanted signal from the material being recorded.
Reality reasons, then, that DW Drum Enhancer effectively lives up to its appellation as a time-saving complete drum chain with tube simulation. So, thanks to Audified’s close collaboration with a true doyen of DW® content, achieving a dream drum sound has never been easier — or sounded better… just ask Scott Donnell, Vice President of Marketing for DW®’s umbrella of brands (including DW Drums, Gretsch Drums, DW Electronics, and more)!
DW Drum Enhancer is available to purchase at an introductory promo price of $149.00 USD until February 15, 2018 — rising to $199.00 USD thereafter — from Audified’s online shop here: https://shop.audified.com/products/dw-drum-enhancer
DW Drum Enhancer can be directly downloaded as a multi-format (AAX, AU, VST2, VST3), 32- and 64-bit native plug-in for MacOS (10.9 and above) and Windows (7 and above) — alongside a fully-functional, 30-day trial version — from Audified here: https://services.audified.com/download
