IK Multimedia Releases Amplitube 2 for iPhone

I’m usually one to be very humble and meek and do not like to draw attention to myself but screw it… BOW DOWN MORTALS TODAY MARKS 28th year since my birth and it promises to be a star studded event.

Look what a very famo…. kinda known celebrity had to say.

And appearently IK Multimedia knew it was my birthday and went ahead and released a MAJOR update to the iPhone’s Amplitube 2 software… (Starr you shouldn’t have) Check out all these new features. ITS INSANE.

IK Multimedia is pleased to announce AmpliTube® 2 for iPhone: a major update to the leading guitar software and now one of the most powerful music creation apps available for the iOS platform.
AmpliTube 2 for iPhone offers incredibly realistic tones and effects, full multi-track recording capabilities and an advanced practice tool – all in one convenient mobile app, from the leaders in analog gear modeling software for professional recording studios.
Combined with the iRig interface adapter, AmpliTube 2 for iPhone allows users to play, practice and record anytime and anywhere with world-class sound for guitar and bass – but also for any other type of instrument.
What’s new in AmpliTube 2 for iPhone:
New built-in one-track recorder with re-amping feature (free update)
New multi-track recorder with 4 tracks and master FX section with 3 effects: Reverb, EQ and Compressor (available as in-app purchase)
5 new stompbox effects: Compressor, Reverb, Parametric EQ, Graphic EQ and Limiter (available as in-app purchase)
Improved sound quality of gear and cabinets with DSP parts derived from AmpliTube 3 and T-RackS 3 for Mac/PC (free update)
Export recordings and mixes as high quality WAV audio files or send them by email as MP3s (free update)
Import songs as backing tracks directly from user iPod library, from iTunes using file sharing or Wi-Fi (free update)
New SpeedTrainer allows players to slow down/speed up imported songs without affecting the pitch (free update)
Up to 50 songs can now be imported (free update)
New preset naming feature (free update)
New Setup panel including input and output level controls (free update)
New scrollable menu for easier and faster gear selection in the FX and AMP sections (free update)
A full effects rig for guitar, bass and any other instrument
AmpliTube 2 for iPhone offers players an entire guitar/bass rig with 3 stompbox effects running into an amp-head with effects plus cabinet and a microphone. A total of up to 16 stompbox effects are now available (delay, fuzz, overdrive, wah, envelope filter, chorus, flanger, phaser, octave, distortion, noise filter, compressor, reverb, parametric EQ, graphic EQ, limiter), 5 amps with full controls (clean, crunch, lead, metal, bass), 5 speaker cabinets and 2 microphones (dynamic and condenser). The sound of the gear and cabinets has also been greatly improved utilizing DSP technology derived directly from AmpliTube 3 for Mac/PC, the leader in amp modeling software for professional studios. Additionally, up to 36 “full rig” tone presets can be saved, named and recalled on the fly. All these effects are essentials for guitar and bass tone shaping and they are also great on a wide range of other instruments such as acoustic guitars and basses, keyboards, synths, drums and vocals.
A professional portable recording studio
AmpliTube 2 for iPhone now includes a recorder with the ability to quickly capture ideas, then mix, re-amp and export them as WAV or MP3 files. The re-amping feature provides the ability to change the sound and tone of the original recording by applying a different set of effects after the track has been recorded without having to re-record it. The recorder in AmpliTube 2 can also be expanded to a full-fledged professional multi-track studio by adding the four-track recorder plus master effects section with reverb, equalizer and compressor (available as in-app purchase). With the 4-track recorder, users can record an entire band or produce full songs and compositions directly in AmpliTube on their mobile device. Track controls include individual volume, pan, apply FX, send FX, plus the ability to import audio directly into each track. The “Bounce” feature allows users to bounce all tracks to a single track, freeing up track space to record additional material for virtually unlimited recording ability.
A powerful practice and learning tool
Up to 50 songs and backing tracks can now be imported directly from the iPod library in the device or from the computer using iTunes file sharing or a Wi-Fi connection. AmpliTube 2 for iPhone now also sports IK’s popular SpeedTrainer learning/practice feature that allows users to slow down or speed up the tempo of imported songs (1/2 speed, or 2x speed) without affecting the pitch. A digital chromatic tuner and metronome are also included, making AmpliTube 2 the perfect practice/learning tool.
AmpliTube 2 for iPhone features:

Blue Microphones Releases New Mic "Spark"

Since I was a young’un I’ve ALWAYS wanted a Blue Kiwi or a Blue Bottle Mic but like most of you I’m a pathetic loser who doesn’t have that much disposable income. Well Blue Microphones has met me 75% of the way by making an affordable versatile microphone.

Blue’s newest professional mic, Spark, is a cardioid, solid-state condenser microphone designed to help you achieve professional quality recordings in any creative environment. Spark features a custom-designed condenser capsule with Class-A discrete electronics resulting in superbly detailed and uncolored output, making it the ideal microphone for recording vocals, drums, guitars, pianos, brass, woodwinds, and just about anything else you can light a fire under.
A new feature found only on the Spark microphone is the unique Focus Control, providing two different usage modes at the push of a button: the Normal mode (out position) providing increased low frequency sensitivity for recordings with great impact and definition, along with the Focus mode, (in position) for even greater clarity and detail.
The Spark microphone ships with a custom-designed pop-filter and shockmount as well as a convenient and stylish wood case for transport. With Spark, you’ve got everything you need to make professional recordings, all in one package.

Spark will be available in November and you bet your fine @$$ rear I’m gonna own one.

My Apologies

I’m really really sorry but the recording industry apparently has not stable means of telling us about new gear so its been pretty quiet here. Do not fear though, I’m working on it. I really do want to change the way companies release their gear. It really seems they don’t care about getting their product out. So until then I’m going to post filler.
Look! That doggie thinks its Paris Hilton!!

New Book: Choosing The Right DAW – Alfred Publishing

As soon as someone finds out I have a recording studio, usually the first thing they ask is, “Could you please put your pants back on?” and then once I do so, they ask, “What software should I use?” Well I can usually only give my opinion of what I use and that’s Pro Tools BUT if you’re stupid and don’t listen to me, you might want to see what else is out there. We’ll if that’s you get off of this blog because my word is the GOSPEL here… or buy this book! Either way this DVD is a breath of fresh air in the home studio industry. AND on top of that its not even that expensive!

Choosing the right digital audio workstation (DAW) is one of the most important decisions any home recording enthusiast will make. This DVD removes the guesswork, as renowned engineer and educator Rick Silva walks you through five of today’s most popular DAWs: Cubase, GarageBand, Logic, Pro Tools, and Sonar.
Silva breaks down the primary features of each program, showing you clips that demonstrate how to record and mix audio, work with MIDI, use loops, and more. With in-depth explorations of each digital audio workstation, you won’t want to make a final purchase of one of these industry-standard software programs until you’ve seen Choosing the Right DAW for YOU.

Choosing the Right DAW for YOU is now available on DVD for $9.99. Pick up your copy at a local music retail store, or buy it today HERE
So there you have it… Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to take my pants off again… What? I’m not technically “working” but I’m at work and I think that’s the rule right?
right?
Wait you want me to wha?
What’s HR?

I’m in a rush today because Allie has threatened my life and told me if I do not come with her to run errands then she will track down my first dog I ever had as a child, bring it back to life, kill it, then desecrate it’s corpse on live TV. So please understand if my wit has run a little short today because frankly, I slept with one eye open last night thinking she was going to come at me with a baseball bat as she’s said before, “Beat all of this random studio knowledge out of my head and replace it with the Owl City Firefly Song”

Telefunken Releases AK-47 mk II

This post comes courtesy of a very friendly Canadian man called Bruce who has conveniently decided to drive the remaining three and a half hours of our trip back to Houston. So for the rest of the day your assignment is to find a Canadian and punch… I mean… thank them.
What we have today is Telefunken’s new cheaper R-F-T line of mics. This particular mic is based on the company’s crown jewel (in my opinion) the U-47. I actually got to use one of those when I spent a day in NRG Studios in Hollywood. I’ve never actually understood why there’s those people who marry inanimate objects, but I have to admit… I did cop a feel when we were alone. It was cold… ….. …..Oh! I dazed off for a second there. Anyways!!

“The R-F-T line of tube condenser microphones utilizes American designed electronics in conjunction with New Old Stock tubes and standardized parts from overseas manufacturers. While we have not “cut any corners,” we have been able to provide a lower cost alternative to more expensive microphone systems, without sacrificing the qualities that you would expect from a TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphone.”

I REALLY wanna get my hands (shut up!!! it was one time and I mean figuratively) on one of these and at some point when I have $1700.00 available, I’ll probably buy one, but until then I’ll reminisce of the one that got away.

iZotope Releases RX2

There’s a few things I’ve been needing to talk to you about. First I’ve seen some of your how-to videos on YouTube and they’re just awful. Once you get back from your job at the gas station, please pick up a personality on the way home. I really do feel kinda bad for writing that… They’re trying I guess,  but I typed it so it has to stay. HEY I don’t make the rules, I just blindly follow them. Secondly,
I know you TOUCHED my DRUMSET Oh yea, go ahead… click those links… you know you wanna. And lastly, I’ve got some gear for all you kiddos recording back alley demos for Myspace, iZotope RX2. I own a few iZotope products such as Spectron, Ozone, and Trash. I love how they’ve taken something as tough as creating pristine EQ and bandpass filters and made it accessible to every experience level. I’ve never used RX but let me copy and paste for you drop some knowledge on you.

Today was a sad night. I rearranged all my bath salts on the side of the tub and then made a microwavable burrito. Even though I turned it every 30-seconds, it still came out frozen in the middle. I think I chipped a tooth. Then, when I out having my nightly cry on the balcony, I saw a bird get hit by a car.

uhhh wait a sec… that’s from Geekologie’s diary. Don’t ask how I got it… We spoon together sometimes… I’m the little spoon. Ok… I digress.

iZotope RX™ 2 is the most complete audio repair toolkit on the market, enabling you to remove noise, hiss, buzz and hum, eliminate clicks and crackle, restore clipped audio, visually select and suppress unwanted sounds, resynthesize missing audio and much more. Leveraging iZotope’s extensive research and development expertise and drawing from the science of psychoacoustics and image processing, RX features cutting-edge tools that raise the bar on quality and usability enabling you to fix previously untreatable audio.

So basically this software can take that drum track you recorded and make it useable, but I’m sorry to inform you that this updated version does not have the technology to give you a personality. Sorry… I was trying to see if it still felt bad to say. It doesn’t but needed to be said.
Here are some audio samples of just how powerful this awesome tool is. I couldn’t believe it worked that well.
Full version priced at $249.00
Buy Here. For more info on RX2 click Here
Just so you know. Geekologie is probably one of the funniest writers out there and a lot of my site reflects his style so if you like mine go to his site as well. http://www.geekologie.com I have to give props where they are most definitely deserved.
And to the guys at the YouTube Channel Limitless Studios, I really hope you don’t take me joking around as bullying or being condescending. I’m sure you’re doing the best you can with what you have available. Hey… you probably get more hits than I do anyways. No one reads this blog anyways except my mom… Right Mom? ..what?? … No mom I don’t  have a girlfriend yet. The site is just now started. I KNOW you want grandchildren and I’m 28 but I’m a late bloomer. My voice still cracks when I talk and I look 12.

New RME Fireface UFX

When I saw this press release my initial reaction was “WHAT? NO!!!” because I just bought the FireFace800 and I thought this was a new improved version. But luckily I realized it was a new flagship model just before I was about to hurl my model into the street and buy this one. I don’t believe in selling my old equipment because I’m scared others will get my insane mixing skills and ruggedly handsome looks by transference I’m scared to meet up with people on craigslist because I’m very frail. However I am glad this did come out though because it reminded me that once I get a chance I should do a review on my Fireface800.
So what we have is pretty much everything you could possibly want in a studio interface. There actually is quite a bit of info on this beast on RME’s website but I’m going to just hit the highlights (mainly because I filled up my wordy post quota on last week’s review.)
This unit is actually quite possibly one of the most decked out, feature-filled interfaces on the market

  • 60 channels of audio! Digitally controlled high-end preamps, reference class converters and full 192 kHz operation.
  • Utilized the new Total Mix FX signal router and features integrated EQ, Dynamics, Reverb / Echo effect, and up to 196KHz plus built in monitoring control.
  • Bright multi-functional colour display with full front panel metering for all 60 channels plus effect bus, and complete control of all key features – directly from the front of the UFX.
  • 12 Analog Inputs with 4 digitally controlled high end preamps on the back and 8 TRS outputs on the back.
  • 12 Analog Outputs with 6 balanced TRS and 2 balanced XLR on the back – perfect for the direct connection of the main studio monitors. On the front: Two additional TRS stereo phones outputs providing high volumes even with hi-impedance headphones (playback channels 9/10 and 11/12)
  • Up to 12 analog and 18 digital channels can be recorded onto 30 separate tracks giving you 30 input and 30 output.
  • All major functions of the interface can be controlled from the unit itself.

Very very nice upgrade from the FireFace800 but seriously RME… why didn’t you call and tell me about this before I bought the one I had? Was it because of the last time we saw each other? Look… I’m sorry I messed up your Pizza Thrower. In my defense those pizzas jammed REALLY easy. And I don’t care what your friend Chuggsie said, I did not spray paint my website name on your cat… OK that does sound like something I’d do… I can’t afford advertising yet.

Now That's Ta-lent!! iPhone 4 and Atomic Tom Show Us How Its Done

I knew it was coming but I didn’t know it would actually be on this scale. If you’ve ever tried to play one of those instruments on an iPhone you know its like trying to unhook a bra for the first time… I mean like rocket science. What? I was curious to see how it felt to wear. It wasn’t for me. HOW DO YOU WOMEN DO IT?? Anyways, its REALLY hard and I have to give these guys props for that. Also the song is actually pretty good.
Apple… are you seeing this? Hello commercial.

Here’s the actual version of the song. I actually like it.

Gotta give props to my good friend Landon for finding this one. He also told me pantie hose keep you warm when you’re deer hunting… I think he just likes how they make him feel fancy.
