API 565 Filter

This new piece of gear abides by the principle, you’re only as good as your source material and having the frequencies taken care of before you hit the DAW can make for a lot less heartache. This is where the API565 Filter comes in. This 500 Series filter combines a high and low pass filter with variable slopes as well as a razor precise notch filter with selectable frequency and notch q. I now want 8 of these for drums. This will in turn save you DSP on your DAW by allowing you to filter bad frequencies at the source.

The API 565 500 Series Filter Module is your secret weapon. Creative filtering can spell the difference between adequate and awesome. From an incisive notch filter to adjustable high and lowpass filters, the API 565 Filter can make your recordings shine. Offering both classic and modern filtering technology, the 565 is the perfect solution to all your filtering problems. And like all API products, it’s a precision device that belongs in every professional’s toolkit. Have you invested in the 500 Series format? Check out what the amazing API 565 Filter Module can do for you.
API 565 500 Series Filter Module Features at a Glance:

  • Filter with surgical precision
  • Quality gear from API

Filter with surgical precision
If you deconstruct the greatest sounds on some of your all-time favorite recordings, you’d be surprised how often filtration is the key. More often than not, cutting a specific frequency is more effective than boosting in other areas of the spectrum. A popular kick drum trick back in in the soulful ’70s, for instance, was a minus 12dB cut at 400Hz on an API 550 EQ. Now API gives you a tool designed specifically for filtration with surgical precision – and, of course, it’s got that classic API analog mojo. With highpass, lowpass, and two midrange notches, the API 565 is your new secret weapon. Put one or more in your 500 Series rack.

Price: $595.00 (I really feel they missed a great marketing opportunity by pricing it at $565 but then again $600 isn’t bad for quality API gear)

Elysia Museq

Elysia is back with another software version of one of its game-changing pieces of hardware. The Museq is the latest iteration of Elysia’s mastering EQ’s. This EQ is analog modeled with what seems like a similar “Warm” circuit that the Alpha Comp has as well as can be run in Mid-Side mode. With its resonant High and Low Pass filters and intuitive cut and boost functions, this would be the perfect companion to the Alpha Comp plugin. They also include a scaled down “mix” version as well.

The museq plugin makes our musical equalizer come alive on your DAW. It has all the original sound and functions the hardware is known and loved for, including the outstanding high/low cut filters with resonance and the Warm Mode sound shaper.
The plugin even adds some powerful extras, like the integrated M/S matrix for mid and side processing, the possibility to link both channels for more convenient stereo operation, and dedicated output level controllers for adapting your settings to the available headroom.
The license includes two plugins in one: The full fledged Master version with all the bells and whistles and a slightly reduced Mix version for quick and easy settings, supporting PC and Mac in 32 and 64 bits and AAX Native, RTAS, AS, VST2.4, VST3, and AU.
So here it is – the digital version of a very flexible and musical sounding EQ with an extremely powerful feature set, shining on any kind of audio material you throw at it.

• Integrated M/S Matrix
Mid/Side and stereo processing modes.
• Resonance High & Low Pass Filters
Switchable to high and low shelf types.
• Warm Mode
Transparency? Coloration? Both!

• Boost/Cut Mode
Excellent controller resolution.
• Switchable Filter Quality
Selectable wide and narrow Q.
• Virtual Band Bypass
Easy A/B-ing of single bands.

Native Instruments Maschine 2.0

Ohhhhh man… this is going to be a tough one not to go run out and buy as soon as it hits the showroom floor. I’ve been a Maschine User for years now. It’s the first sequencing DAW / Hardware combo that I’ve found that can take care of most of my needs. I have however had many gripes about how the Maschine software limits you on very basic features. I hated being limited to 3 inserts per sound and wanted the same style browsing that Arturia uses in their virtual instruments. It seems two of these things are met as well as unveiling a mammoth new hardware controller that comes with 2 color screens. This thing look amazing and I’m very tempted to go buy it.

Maschine Studio kicks off Native Instruments’ Maschine 2 music-creation software. Sequence virtual instruments, create drum grooves, record samples, slice up loops, and take advantage of all of your favorite plug-in processors and effects all within an incredibly intuitive environment. In addition to a slick new mixer, highlights of Maschine 2 include unlimited groups and insert effects plus sidechaining. A tag-based visual browser and total integration with Native Instruments Komplete are super handy, and as a bonus, Maschine Studio even comes with four amazing Komplete products: Massive, Prism, Scarbee Mark I, and Solid Bus Comp.
Awesome hardware gives you complete 1-to-1 hands-on control
The really cool thing about Maschine Studio is the way the hardware controller integrates with the software environment. It lets you access your whole library of instrument sounds and effects and tweak them with astonishing efficiency. Whether you’re step sequencing effects or creating totally original sounds, all of the controls you need are right there at your fingertips. A built-in stand makes this hardware controller ideal for any environment, and thanks to its built-in audio and MIDI interfaces, Maschine Studio is the natural centerpiece of your rig.
Massive music-production power that fits your rig
Native Instruments’ Maschine Studio provides you with a powerful toolset you can integrate into your system any way you like. As a freestanding music-production environment, Maschine Studio can act as a host for your VST and AU plug-ins, allowing you to take full advantage of your virtual instrument library and Maschine 2’s amazing sequencer. But, you can also run Maschine Studio as a slave to your DAW, by inserting it as you would any other virtual instrument. And with full support for MIDI clock/sync, it’s easy to integrate your Maschine Studio setup with your live gear as well.

FXPansion BFD3

BFD was the first virutual drummer software I had ever used because it came with Pro Tools LE back in the good ole days. Based on that I should just buy it right now sight unseen.

Tone2 Epic Pads for Rayblaster

I have spent quite a bit of money on Virtual Instruments just for their pad settings. Its probably one of my favorite things about having any synth. I can get past not having great bass presets or accurately sampled instruments, but if your pads are weak, I don’t want anything to do with your Virtual Instrument. Tone2 already have the pad game locked up, but they decided to take it even farther by adding even MORE pads to Rayblaster with the Epic Pads pack.

Epic pads kicks Rayblaster’s Impulse Modelling a notch and provides a comprehensive
collection of rich soundscapes.
Capture the entire emotional palette, from dramatic strings, expressive vocals, uplifting pads,
ambitious atmospherics, up to pure enigmatic textures.

to set the right mood for your next production

What you get in this expansion is 10 kits that cater to rock and beyond with Terry’s signature sound.

Terry Date is the producer, recording engineer, and mixer behind bands like The Deftones, Pantera, Staind, Incubus, SoundGarden, and many more. U-he Satin is Here!

Lets be honest, we’re all fans of tape. If we could afford it and it were more convenient, we’d all have Studer machines in our houses. Unfortunately, that is not the case and U-he, have seen this as well as realized that there are more options than just tape saturation and have made an all-in-one tape emulation / effect plugin. Satin, is your one stop shop for vintage goodness. Ever heard of a tape reverb? Well you have now. This plugin is made for the experimental but I’m positive you can use it subtly to get that warm rounded sound. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. And in other awesome AAX related news, U-he has announced they are feverishly working on AAX compatibility. Finally my uhbiks will work in Pro Tools. I can’t live without them.

Announced at Musikmesse 2013, we have released our universal tape machine plug-in SATIN, as VST2 / VST3 (PC and Mac) and AU (Mac only), in 32-bit and 64-bit flavours. Satin emulates a wide variety of machines from the long history of magnetic tape recording by allowing precise control over the bias and tape head parameters, as well as tape equalisation curves and noise reduction algorithms – separately for recording and playback.
Satin includes two alternative modes aimed at the more experimentally-minded music producer: classic stereo band echo (4 heads / taps) or triggered, Hendrix-style psychedelic tape flanging.
Opening the ‘Studio’ folder In Satin’s browser reveals a wide range of practical tape saturation presets, several of which emulate famous tape machines of the past. The collection is rounded off by a bunch of colourful flanges and delays, which even include a ‘tape reverb’.

The introductory price of Satin is $89 USD (+ VAT in EU) until October 7th 2013, then $129 USD.

Celemony Melodyne AAX Compatibility

And now number 2 of the 5 plugins I need AAX is finally here. Celemony has been very quiet about AAX and I was worried that I was going to have to use the rewire version, but alas we are all OK. Melodyne, in my opinion is the best pitch and rhythm correction plugin that exist has been coded for AAX64 as well as some bug improvements have been made on top of this glorious announcement. Pro Tools 11 users, you’re one step closer to having the best DAW with all of the plugins you’ve grown to know and love.

Celemony GmbH/ Munich, Sept. 12th, 2013 (ictw) – With a free update for Melodyne editor, assistant and essential, Celemony is now also supporting the AAX plug-in interface and, with it, the 64-bit operation of Melodyne under Avid Pro Tools 11.
The multi-award-winning audio tool Melodyne is in use on many Pro Tools systems. With the update to Version 2.1.1, Melodyne can now also be operated under the new AAX interface of Pro Tools 11, which employs 64-bit processing. This makes clear gains in terms of both performance and reliability possible – primarily when correcting and optimizing longer recordings.
The update is free of charge for users of the current Version 2 of Melodyne editor, assistant and essential and is already available for download. Besides AAX compatibility, it also contains a variety of bugfixes and optimizations, and is therefore recommended to all users.
