Warm Audio WA76

I’ve been wanting to post about this for a LONG time. A couple of days ago, Bryce posted this pic on his Facebook page, blew Gearslutz collective minds, and shot me an email letting me reveal this info. You have NO clue how hard is was to not shout this from the rooftop because this is a really big deal. I mean… how many companies are releasing a full fledged version of an 1176 at the price point that Warm Audio is planning to sell this bad boy at. Where are you going to find a faithful replica of the Rev D blackface Urei 1176 for $600?!!!! We WILL own several of these. Bryce has let us know that Everything Recording will get the exclusive review of this product. He just doesn’t know it yet, but he may not get the unit back!

  • Price is $599 US, 649 Euro inc VAT in Europe and 549GBP inc VAT in the UK.

  • CineMag transformers in and out. Same Reichenbach engineering output transformer design as original UREI version (CineMag now owns Reichenbach).

  • Rev D

  • High quality discrete signal path, even going the extra mile with some parts, including tantalum capacitors etc…

  • YES, it can do the “all in limiting”

  • Power supply is internal (like all WA products) power transformer external (as usual) it will not be a “wall wart” style but “line lump” so it doesn’t block space at the AC outlet like the WA12 power transformer does.

  • It is extremely musical, but still very transparent, the transformers hold up nicely when pushed. I’ve run some intense compression and it doesn’t sound “squashed” or “gross” even with drastic 20-25db’s of compression.

Audioease Altiverb Adds AAX Support

If you’ve read any interviews from big name engineers, odds are you’ve heard the name Altiverb show up in almost all of them, and now that powerful space modeling plugin has made it to the realm of Pro Tools 11. The upgrade is free for current users and seamlessly replaces your old version.

– Altiverb 7.1 is a Mac only plug-in, available in 64 bit and 32 bit as AAX Native, VST, MAS and Audio Unit.
– Like Pro Tools 11, Altiverb 7.1 now requires an iLok 2 USB key. An Altiverb 7.1 license cannot be stored on an iLok 1 USB key. In case you do not have an iLok 2 USB key we offer it to registered Altiverb customers at the greatly reduced price of: $35 USD including world wide shipping (normal price is $49 USD excluding shipping). You can use the iLok License Manager app to transfer the license from your iLok 1 to your new iLok 2 key.
– You should not upgrade to Altiverb 7.1 in case you rely on the RTAS plug-in for Pro Tools 10 or below. Altiverb 7.1 requires Pro Tools 11.0.2 or higher.
– Digital Performer 7 is not supported, Digital Performer 8 is.
– Altiverb 7.1 for Windows version has been co-developed with this Mac Altiverb 7.1 release. It is still under development but it is far progressed. We expect to have more news about it soon.
– For an IR production we are looking for a ghost village. Any terrain with more than 10 buildings where we can make a load of noise in the middle of the night without being arrested or shot at. We prefer places within 700 km from the Netherlands. If you have suggestions please email arjen at audioease.com.

Arturia Black Friday ISEM and IMINI

The iOS market keeps flourishing and Arturia have made 2 very nice additions for tablet based synths. You won’t even have to wait in line for this one.

Music software and hardware company Arturia is pleased to announce that it is offering generously discounted $4.99 USD/€4.49 EUR sales pricing on each of its critically-acclaimed iMini and iSEM soft synth apps for Black Friday from Friday, November 29 through to Sunday, December 1…
iMini is an authentic recreation of the 1971-vintage MinimoogTM * monosynth for Apple’s all-conquering iPad. It is based on the TAE® (True Analog Emulation) synthesis technology found in Arturia’s award-winning Mini V soft synth, meticulously modelling the distinctive tones and analogue nuances of the legendary MinimoogTM. Moog changed the musical world with the MinimoogTM and Arturia helped change the music software world with the Mini V. And Arturia subsequently succeeded in broadening its appeal still further by introducing iMini to transform any iPad (2 or above) into the ultimate classic analogue synth emulation. Those timeless three oscillators and that 24dB per octave fabled filter can all be seen and heard in iMini. Today, thanks to the iOS 7-supporting INTERAPP AUDIO TRANSPORT feature found in V1.2, users can connect and control other similarly-supportive apps with the greatest of ease, letting them concentrate on what they do best — making music whenever and wherever the mood takes them!
Like Arturia’s award-winning Oberheim SEM V desktop (or laptop) software solution before it, iSEM also uses TAE® to faithfully reproduce the analogue warmth and ingenious interface of the 1974-vintage Oberheim Synthesizer Expander Module® (SEM) to which it owes its inspiration and name, but brings it all kicking and screaming to this day and age in the most musical and ingeniously interactive ways possible by making the most of latest developments available to its iPad host. The dual-oscillator SEM was originally conceived as a way of beefing up weaker-sounding compatible analogue monosynths of the time before becoming a sought-after sound in its own right — so much so that its American creator came up with a series of successive SEM-based keyboard instruments, including the Two Voice, Oberheim’s first self-contained compact, duophonic synthesizer in 1975, and enormous Eight Voice (eight SEMs set across two tiers together with the trailblazing Polyphonic Synthesizer Programmer) in 1977. On the surface, anyone at all familiar with the original Oberheim SEM will immediately feel right at home when launching iSEM since the majority of its MAIN screen mirrors the layout and associated controls of Oberheim’s hardware, yet iSEM offers a whole lot more besides, including inbuilt Inter-App Audio, allowing users to send MIDI commands and stream audio between apps on the same device, and a voice programmer that makes simulating Oberheim’s original Eight Voice hardware heavyweight a breeze. Get iSEM and get back to the future of that still-sought-after Oberheim sound with Arturia!
Today, then, there’s really no excuse for not taking those history-making MinimoogTM or Oberheim SEM sounds anywhere anytime with iMini and iSEM — all the more so with those generously discounted $4.99 USD/€4.49 EUR sales prices for Black Friday calling out your name! Now’s the time to act, though… this time-limited offer ends after Sunday, December 1.

Appropriate iPad owners can purchase and directly download iMini and iSEM for $4.99 USD/€4.49 EUR apiece between November 29 through to Sunday, December 1 from Apple’s App Store here: https://itunes.apple.com/fr/artist/arturia/id549089551 (Thereafter, they revert back to their regular $9.99 USD/€8.99 EUR pricing, respectively.)

Tone2 Nemesis

FM Synthesis is a huge tool in the EDM (& even Pop) production tool kit, but it can sometimes be a daunting task to find the perfect sound for the perfect spot. Tone2 has made this easier with Nemesis and has even gone as far as reworking the wheel by approaching FM synthesis using “NeoFM Synthesis.” As usual the sound quality and ease of use is unmatched with Tone2.

Nemesis takes FM synthesis to its next evolutionary step: NeoFM synthesis. NeoFM is an exclusive new and improved approach
to FM synthesis that is extremely powerful and intuitive.
Nemesis includes traditional FM synthesis as well as a completely new and improved approach to FM called NeoFM synthesis.
It is now easier than ever to get very good sounding results. The sound quality of Nemesis surpasses conventional synths, making it
easy to locate the sonic sweet spot. Nemesis features an easy-to-use interface, which ensures that you will experience FM synthesis
at its best and most entertaining.
Highlights
*  Unrivaled sound quality.
*  Offers a new and user-friendly approach to FM synthesis. Nemesis makes FM synthesis accessible to everyone, regardless of skill
level or experience.
*  Easy to tweak presets or program your own sounds with.
*  NeoFM covers all important aspects of traditional FM synthesis, but is in no way limited only to bell-style sounds. It offers a very
large sonic range, one that is much more varied than other FM synths.
*  Due to its innovative technical approach, neoFM does not suffer from a metallic sound or from the weaknesses of conventional FM.
*  No fewer than 22 combinable synthesis types. Nemesis expands FM with further synthesis methods such as Additive, Formant,
Wavetables, Waveshaping, Phase distortion, Sync and Reso synthesis.
*  Contains 1000 inspiring patches from professional designers.
*  Unique signature sound.
*  Nemesis features a large number of exclusive sounds that are not possible with other synthesizers.
*  Perfect for modern, as well as all other music styles.
*  Wave import, resynthesis and the additive spectral editor offer unlimited sonic possibilities.
*  True 4x stereo unison.
*  An extensive number of high-end quality effects, with flexible and innovative routing options.
*  Trancegate with an extensive selection of setup options.
*  High-End sound quality with low demands on your CPU.
*  Powerful, easy-to-use arpeggiator.
Sound
Nemesis features pristine tonal quality and offers sonic possibilities far beyond the scope of conventional FM synthesizers. A uniquely
silky signature sound is generated by Nemesis’ synth engine, which is capable of providing warm, smooth, and creamy tones as well
as the classic ‘cold’ sounds FM synthesis is well known for. Whether you desire a crisp, clean sound or downright nasty tones, the
NeoFM engine delivers with the highest sound quality possible!
As quick and easy as it is to dial-in good sounding results with Nemesis, sometimes you just want to rely on a good and inspiring sound
library. This is why Nemesis comes bundled with more than 1000 sounds. Each sound is carefully built by a professional sound designer
and is crafted with great attention to detail. The result is a sound library that is inspirational to work with and that will fuel your creativity.
Since it is impossible to describe a sound with words, and because a demo-song cannot show the dynamic expression and huge sonic
range that Nemesis provides, we recommend that you download the free demo to hear Nemesis’ unique sonic capabilities for yourself!
Synthesis
Nemesis offers an innovative approach called ‘neoFM’ synthesis which is genuine FM synthesis. Most conventional FM synths such as
the DX7, use phase modulation (PM) instead of genuine FM synthesis, yet such synths are branded as FM synthesizers for marketing
reasons.
However, the traditional PM approach is limited to using dark sounding waveforms like sinoids or triangles, which results in a dull or bell
like sound. Classic waveforms like a sawtooth do not work well with it because they result in an unpleasant, sharp and excessively
metallic sound.
‘Real analog FM’ suffers from drift and lacks precision, resulting in a disharmonic sound, which is musically not very useful.
The innovative neoFM approach, exclusive to Nemesis, combines only the advantages of both types of synthesis without suffering from
any of the weaknesses associated with PM or ‘Real analog FM’ synthesis.
Aside from NeoFM synthesis, Nemesis features an astounding selection of no fewer then 22 combinable synthesis types.
From Waveshaping, Phase Distortion, Sync, Wavetable, Ringmod, Vintage FM, up to the Reso and Advanced Formant Synthesis
exclusive to Nemesis. Each synthesis type is built with attention to sound quality, musical potential and the capability to produce a wide
variety of sounds not possible with other synths.
Resynthesize a waveform from your own samples, or use the comfortable additive spectral editor to further manipulate & shape your wave
by editing its partials.
With several play modes like polyphonic, monophonic & legato, true 4x stereo unison, 22 synthesis types, and an unlimited number of
waveforms and the sky is the limit…literally.
Effects
As important as anything else within a synth are the effects. We spent a great deal of time ensuring that Nemesis featured a suite of
high quality FX.No less then 33 effects are available from the effects section, ranging from Reverb, Delay, Chorus, and Phaser, to Tremelo,
Vibrato, Distortion, Amp-Simulation, Bitcrush, Degrader and Compressor.
To complete these effects, several flexible routing options are included. The innovative Ducking Mode makes your mix sound more transparent
and fat.
Nemesis offers smart microtuning, exclusive to Nemesis, which makes chords sound both fatter and more transparent at the same time.
It also offers optional punch and psychoacoustic features to add a little kick to your sound.
Arpeggiator
Almost a synth by itself, the arpeggiator section holds the key to all of your arpeggio needs. It offers a way to set up your own arpeggios
that is both powerful and easy to work with.
We developed smart algorithms which return melodies that are more useful musically than conventional arpeggiators.
Working with the arpeggiator is extremely simple. Just lay down your notes inside the note sequencer as you normally would and select
the play direction. The arpeggiator also supports optional advanced features such as autochords, polyphonic playback, pitch slides, legato,
swing-shuffle, split, matrix integration and it gives you very precise control over note-sorting, play direction and velocity.
Don’t feel like programming your own patterns? Use one of the built-in patterns or load one of the many external pattern presets to use as
a starting point.Working with an arpeggiator should be fun and inspiring. The arpeggiator in Nemesis is as fun and inspiring as it is powerful,
flexible, and easy to use.
Gate
Nemesis also offers a dedicated Gate section. As with the arpeggiator, we aimed to make this as intuitive and flexible as possible. The Gate
section provides advanced features like Contour, Fading, Swing and Shuffle to fine-tune your gate to perfection.
Arpeggiator, gate and modulation run in perfect sync with each other. This allows you to use the three together in all kinds of creative ways
and it makes them easy to use and fun to play with.
Modulation
Modulation is where the true power of a synthesizer emerges. By using the modulation matrix, Nemesis allows you to connect dozens of modulation
sources to all-important sound parameters.Want to use an LFO to wobble your filter? Simply set the proper assignments inside of the modulation
matrix and you’re on your way.
Modulate almost any parameter well up into the audio-rate speed, from internal modulation sources like the LFOs, to a wide variety of MIDI messages.
We’ve also included midi-learn, so assigning CC’s is as simple as a right-click and a knob-turn.
Modulation can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. Nemesis’ modulation system is there to provide whichever modulation routing you
require to create your perfect sound.
CPU
CPU load is always an important factor to consider, especially in light of today’s complicated multi-track projects.
We made sure that Nemesis is as easy on your CPU as possible. Nemesis offers a rich, deep sound, the very best sound quality, and
low CPU usage.
What is the advantage of good sound quality if it consistently brings your system to a halt with a mere single instance of the synth?
The low CPU requirement ensures that you can easily use multiple instances of the synth without overloading your project and without the need to
render tracks right in the middle of a creative session.

Rob Papen: Punch 1.0.4

Rob Papen is a giant in creating virtual synths that appear in countless hit songs and are used by the world over. In 2011, he debuted Punch, a groove sequencing virtual instrument for all of your rhythm based needs. Punch offers the best quality in up-to-date sounds that are not only used in EDM
As a highly-alluring heavyweight drum synthesis/sampler software instrument with built-in samples and groove sequencers, Rob Papen’s powerful Punch was an instant hit when first unleashed on an unsuspecting music world in 2011, expeditiously earning its creator rave reviews in the press while finding fans across blurring boundaries between divergent musical genres — from Dutch DJ superstar Armin van Buuren to Rob Abernethy (known throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas for his cutting-edge approach to music composition for video games, television, and film), who wrote, “I found grooves and sounds on it that I’ve heard nowhere else; it’s immediately inspirational.”

Today, though, the best just got a whole lot better! The latest version (1.0.4) of Punch comes complete with many more presets, drum presets, samples, and grooves, plus three new tutorials (http://www.robpapen.com/punch-tutorials.html) focusing on the creative use of Punch and showcasing the superlative sounds and amazing features and it has to offer professionals — such as Armin van Buuren and Rob Abernethy — and amateurs alike!

Speaking of which, be sure to check out an intriguing and informative introductory video from Rob Papen himself (http://www.robpapen.com/Latest-news/november-punch-.html) where you can see and hear him talk about the creative process behind Punch 1.0.4. Clearly, the depths that this renowned sound design devotee is prepared to go in pursuit of his sought-after craft makes for fascinating viewing: Punch is focusing more on the newer electronic sounds, so new drum and percussion stuff. So we sampled stones from Greece, which we dropped into water; we sampled glasses. We also recorded bamboo. It was a very creative process, in which we combined several odd things to create brand-new sounds — like a little gong, which we put in water, and I recorded that as a kind of water gong. Combined with that, we made also a whole range of new presets — over 2,000 drum presets are inside Punch right now! Next to these new sounds and samples, we also extracted all the MIDI files from the current grooves, and included our new drum kits and new MIDI files.”

Rob Papen has rightfully reclaimed pole position at the cutting edge of today’s electronic synthesizer drum machines with Punch 1.0.4. And, as it’s an update, existing Punch owners can download it for free by simply logging into their Rob Papen account and following the straightforward instructions. In fact, anyone interested in spicing up their drum and percussion parts is instructed to try Punch 1.0.4. Sign up for a demo version (http://www.robpapen.com/demo-version-punch.html) or proceed to purchase (http://www.robpapen.com/buy-punch.html). Either way, we’re sure you’ll love what you hear as much as we loved creating its new content! Quite simply, it’s a knock-out!
