Propellerhead Reason 7

Propellerhead is back and better than ever with the newest iteration of a very popular DAW used the world over. Reason has been a big part of my production for a long time ever since it came as a lite version with Pro Tools. Now they’ve added even more bells and whistles including more sounds, loops and drumkits as well as the new Audiomatic Retro Transformer. You also get more intuitive support for adding audio from your music libraries. Now you can take those songs you have and mash them up with enhanced audio quantize and automatic slicing. I just still wish they’d add VST or AU plugin support.

Propellerhead announced today a new major version of its award-winning Reason music software. With over 90 third party Rack Extensions expanding Reason’s rack of instruments and effects already available, Propellerhead has focused its attention on new creative and inspirational improvements for the mixer, the rack and the sequencer.
With Reason 7, users can integrate all their instruments into Reason with MIDI out, automatic audio slicing and audio quantize, and even convert their recordings into REX loops for further creative possibilities in the rack. For mixing, Propellerhead is introducing a spectrum analyzer with visual EQ controls; group and parallel mix channels; and many workflow improvements to help users sound better, easier. To inspire, Reason 7 makes it easier to import audio from users’ music libraries and the web with support for mp3, aac, wma and more. The enhanced Factory Sound Bank comes fully loaded with tons of new loops and drum kits, while the new Audiomatic Retro Transformer effect unit adds a futuristic-vintage sound to any tracks, never more than a mouse-click away.

IK Multimedia Updates SampleTank for iPhone

Every day, it just keeps getting more and more advanced. I remember getting my very first Apple iBook and an MBox 1 and it coming with Sampletank. I loved that program, and now I bet this version for iPhone and iPad completely blow that version out of the water. I still haven’t used my iPad for much more than a control surface for Pro Tools but I’m sure that day is coming very soon and I’m sure this will be on there. Some of the new updates are more grooves, more sounds, and better graphics! Its free for existing owners.

IK Multimedia, a leader in mobile music-creation apps and accessories for iOS — is proud to announce the release of SampleTank 1.4, the latest version of its professional-quality sound-and-groove-module app for iPhone,iPad and iPod touch. The app is now fully optimized to support the larger screen of both iPhone 5 and the new iPod touch while providing eye-catching graphics that showcase amazingly on the Retina display.
SampleTank now also sports increased polyphony (the number of simultaneous notes that can be played). Up to 64 simultaneous voices are now available, and this expanded note capacity gives users even more freedom to produce complex, professional-caliber arrangements in SampleTank’s 4-track recorder, right on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Lots in the Tank
SampleTank comes loaded with hundreds of world-class sample-based sounds and patterns, giving users a broad sonic palette for producing professional-sounding tracks and beats, or for use as a sound module for live performance.
SampleTank features 16 instrument categories and includes over 500 sounds, from drums to pianos to basses to synths to guitars and many more. Users can customize the sounds through editable parameters such as volume, attack, and filter; and with insert effects and a master reverb. Thanks to a newly streamlined user interface, navigation through Sample Tank’s powerful features is now even easier and faster.
Get More for Less
Additional instruments, patterns and grooves are available in convenient instrument-specific expansion sound packs, making it easy for users to add the specific sound types they need.
IK offers two great options for controlling SampleTank externally: iRig KEYS is a 37-mini-key, bus-powered, ultra-portable keyboard; and iRig MIDI is an iOS MIDI interface that makes it possible to plug any external controller into an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Pricing and Availability
The SampleTank App is available for $19.99/€17.99 from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or HERE. The app includes over 130 sounds and 1,000 MIDI patterns that can further be expanded via In-App Purchase. The update is free for existing users.

Pro Tools Hotkey Matrix

I’m not sure how long this has been out but I stumbled across it the other day and I’m seriously considering buying it. Sure I know all of the shortcut keys to Pro Tools but why not have the most popular ones right at your finger tips. Enter the Hotkey Matrix. This little guy takes all of the alts, shifts, controls, and commands out of Pro Tools, giving you a quicker workflow, leaving you with more brain power to devote to mixing and tracking. It’s a great piece of gear for any Pro Tools user.

The Hotkey Matrix is a powerful control surface for Pro Tools. The concept is simple: one key, one command. Each of the 144 keys are color-coded, labelled, and mapped to a comprehensive set of Pro Tools commands. No more keyboard combinations. No more mousing through menus. Be more efficient, more comfortable, and work faster than ever before.

  • Efficient access to advanced Pro Tools functions via one-button commands

  • Plug & Play — no additional software to install or learn

  • Careful selection of useful functions based on years of production experience at DNA Music Labs

  • Reduces repetitive keyboard and mouse activity

  • Complements existing control surfaces

Avid Live Webinar Featuring Ken "Pooch" Van Druten

Man… Pooch looks like he’s about to have to run sound for (insert crappy band you’re thinking of right now). When you’ve run sound for such great bands as The Beastie Boys, Earth Wind & Fire and Linkin Park, you know a thing or two about live mixing. I consider live mixing one of the hardest types of audio engineering. In the studio, you can retrack, tweak, and have plenty of “do-overs” but with live sound, you’ve got none of that. Add in the HUGE box of a room and a certain blonde pasty kid standing next to your rig, watching you work and you have a deadly cocktail of sorrow. So with all of that being said, Ken is here, in the form of a webinar to help us all learn a thing or two about Live Sound.
The Award-Winning Live Sound and Recording Engineer Shares Mixing and Recording Tips

WHAT:                    Award-winning live sound and recording engineer Ken “Pooch” Van Druten has toured with some of the biggest names in music, including Linkin Park, Beastie Boys, Eminem, Guns N’ Roses, and Earth, Wind & Fire. This webinar takes a look at what sets Pooch’s mixes apart from others.
WHO:                       In this FREE webinar with Avid® host Robert Scovill, Pooch will take a look at his career and discuss how he got to where he is today, dissecting his approach to mixing with VENUE and providing insight into his systems and workflows. Pooch will also cover his mixing and recording techniques – through actual tour show files — and answer audience questions.
WHEN:                    This webinar will take place on Wed., March 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST

WHERE:                  To register for the webinar, visit http://www.avid.com/pooch

FXPansion Bloom

I’m always game for some new way to alter delay based effects and from the looks of it, FXPansion has made yet another plugin to fill that role. Bloom goes a few steps further than most of your delay based effects, giving you elements of reverb and plenty of modulation to go around.

FXpansion is proud to present Bloom, a creative delay effect plugin with additional diffusion network, effects, advanced modulation and much more. Bloom’s varied delay modes and lush diffusion reverb instantly introduce new textures and spaces to your productions. Dig a little deeper to discover new ways of using delay for sound design.
At Bloom’s core is a stereo delay line switchable between analogue BBD, tape and digital models, with a lush diffusion reverb algorithm providing stunning spaciousness and dimension. With 3 switchable routings for the diffusor and the effect section containing filtering, chorus, frequency shifting and more, an extremely wide variety of effects are possible. Other highlights include reverse, ping-pong and freeze functions.
Bloom’s TransMod modulation system lets you modulate almost all its parameters with a variety of sources – built-in step-sequencers, LFOs, envelope follower and more. Additional MIDI-derived sources let you change the delay time per note or vary the feedback amount with note velocity. The plugin also includes an internal MIDI learn system for tweaking parameters live, turning Bloom into a versatile performance effect.
Highlights:
Creative delay and diffusion effect plugin
Digital, Analogue BBD and Tape emulations
Syncable, reverse, ping-pong and freeze delay modes
Diffusion reverb, additional effects, EQ, drive and saturation
Flexible routing for processing blocks
2x oversampling with 4x Hi Def mode for extremely high quality
TransMod modulation with step-sequencers, LFOs and more
Comprehensive MIDI control
32-bit and 64-bit support
VST, AU and RTAS plugin formats on Windows 7 or higher / Mac OSX 10.6.2 or higher

Bloom is available as a download-only product from the FXpansion web shop
Pricing is $99, €79, £69 inc VAT where applicable.

Warm Audio Tone Beast

Bryce is back (and looking very excited to talk to S.O.S in the video screenshot) with a peek at his newest concoction of insanely low priced must have gear. This time he’s let the beast loose with this highly versatile piece of gear called the ToneBeast. It essentially starts with a Warm Audio WA12 and hot rods it out with those features any discerning engineer loves to have at their disposal, plus a few they didn’t even know they needed. That’s when you know you’ve found a great new piece of gear… when they give you something you need but didn’t even know you wanted. The only thing I’ve seen close to this is the Slate Pro Audio Fox Quad Tone but that is $1799.00. This has even more features and this one is 1/3rd of the price. I will let Bryce explain all of this better in the above video.
For more info, stay tuned and check out www.WarmAudio.com for updates. I’ll be posting updates as well.

Arturia iMini Synth for iPad

I’ll post the update simply because you CANNOT beat the sound that comes out of Arturia’s synths. They just can’t be beat. Their standalone functionality seems to be rock solid as well but put this plugin into Pro Tools and you have a disaster. I really hope they make an AAX version of Analog Laboratory or I probably won’t make the switchover to HD11. It’s THAT important of a plugin for me. Well anyways, I’m still not sold on the whole “iPad as an instrument” thing. I use mine to control Pro Tools remotely with Neyrinck, but that’s as far as I goes.

iMini is based on the TAE® (True Analog Emulation) synthesis technology found in Arturia’s award-winning Mini V soft synth, meticulously modelling the distinctive tones and analogue nuances of the legendary Seventies-vintage Minimoog Model D monosynth. Moog changed the musical world with the Minimoog and Arturia helped change the music software world with the Mini V.
Arturia now brings the still-sought-after classic Minimoog sound to the musical masses, transforming any iPad mini, iPad 2, or iPad with Retina display into the ultimate analogue synth emulation! Those timeless three oscillators and that 24dB per octave fabled filter are all present and accounted for in iMini. It also successfully sports the look and feel of Dr Bob Moog’s namesake iconic synthesizer for all to see (and hear). But being a game-changing iPad app for 2013 and not an analogue synth design dating back to 1970 means there’s a whole lot more to iMini than first meets the eye…
IMINI FEATURES

  • Realistic recreation of the classic Minimoog™ sound.

  • Hundreds of sounds created by the top sound designers in the world.

  • Preset compatibility with Arturia Mini V software.

  • Core MIDI support

  • Including MIDI controller mapping.

  • WIST sync with other iPAD/Iphone devices.

  • High quality sound based on our TAE™ analog modeling technology.

  • Tabletop Ready iOS application for a complete electronic music studio.

Heritage Audio DMA 73

Would you look at what my friend Bryce from Warm Audio showed me. This is Heritage Audio, a company out of Europe that makes these gorgeous looking vintage inspired units. This is their first 19″ endeavor. These guys definitely have the vintage look and I’m sure given Bryce’s seal of approval, they sound the part as well. Look out Vintech and BAE, you have a new competitor in the ring. This two channel version is actually competitively priced too!

Heritage Audio announces the new DMA73 dual microphone amplifier and it´s the company´s first product in 19″ format.
