Hey do you own Battery 3? Horrible program huh? That’s right, one of the worst ever. Basically it’s a humongous piece of crap BUT now you can use that program to get a less crappy program with Native Instruments summer promotion.

One month only: save 50% on the latest version of your favorite KOMPLETE Instrument or Effect. Upgrade, update or crossgrade to KOMPLETE 7, KONTAKT 4, REAKTOR 5.5, GUITAR RIG 4 PRO, BATTERY 3, ABSYNTH 5, or FM8 for half price. Too bad they won’t let you use this crossgrade on Maschine. They really raised the bar with that program.

Neyrinck Updates V-Control

One of the Greatest Apps of 2010 has just been updated and made even better. I’ve posted a review on the program when it was released and can be found HERE. Basically V-Control allows you to control your Pro Tools session via WiFi on the iPad. I’ve actually used this quite a bit in the studio and a few times simply because I was lazy and wanted to watch TV while I was tracking a friend. If you have a set of wireless headphones, you can run a remote session from another room very easily.
Here’s some of the features you get with the update:

The V-Control and V-Control Pro apps for the iPad, have been updated to version 1.1 on the App Store. Version 1.1 is a free update that adds these new features:
Dual surround panner controllers (V-Control Pro only)
Peak-hold and clip metering
Mix/Edit window toggle switch
Please note you will need to update to Ney-Fi 1.1 on your computer for full compatibility. Ney-Fi 1.1 is available at www.neyrinck.com/downloads. And please note the surround panners must be set it up in the Pro Tools peripherals dialog. See the user’s guide for more information. Also, please note that if your iPad is still using iOS 3.2, you should not update until a maintenance update 1.1.1 is released in a week or two.

Audix Micro HP

Yea the posts have been a bit sparse but that’s just because I’m getting ready for the end of the world tomorrow. I’ve got all of my favorite pieces of studio gear in a huge blanket like a massive hobo pack. I figure if this rapture thing happens, there will be a lot of people getting caught up in the air and God isn’t going to see one really small guy trying to bring his Millennia pre-amp and Blue Kiwi to Heaven. I figure there’s gonna be some good music and someone needs to record it.
To be honest this May 21st stuff is a little fishy to me, but kudos on one person with money to make it an extremely culturally relevant piece of joke fodder. It got me a whole paragraph!
Audix has released a percussion mic that looks pretty impressive.

The success of the Micro-D miniature rim mount drum mic has prompted the demand for a similar product specifically for hand percussion instruments. With this in mind, Audix proudly introduces a sister product to the Micro-D called the Audix Micro-HP. Having similar design characteristics and sound qualities as the Micro D, The Micro-HP utilizes a cardioid polar pattern to capture the attack of the head as well as the tonality and transients of the instrument.
The Micro-HP has the ability to handle very high sound pressure levels without distortion, to isolate the sound of each instrument in a percussion ensemble, and to minimize gain before feedback for live stage applications. A special rubber shock mount and protective anodized aluminum ring provides maximum vibration control. The flexible gooseneck design of the DCLAMP allows the artist or sound engineer to place the Micro-HP quickly and easily into position for the most optimum sound. One of the features most widely praised by artists and engineers is, of course, its size. The micro design keeps the mic out of the way of the player’s path and the unique low profile mounting system eliminates the need for a bulky mic stand on stage.
The Micro-HP is designed to produce a natural, accurate sound right “out of the box” with little or no EQ. This makes life exceptionally easy for you and your sound engineer. Audix endorsers Bashiri Johnson, Poncho Sanchez, Airto Moreira, Richie “Gajate” Garcia and Giovanni Hidalgo, who have long been using a wide variety of Audix instrument mics, are excited that Audix is addressing the specific needs of hand percussionists with the Micro-HP.

The Micro-HP is available from authorized Audix dealers in a matte black finish at a suggested retail price of $255. The Micro-HP has a 6’ integrated cable and is supplied with a phantom power adapter, windscreen and DCLAMP-Micro for lug nut mounting. Audix is a leading U.S. manufacturer of high-quality microphones and powered speakers for the live sound and recording markets. For more information, click HERE

Oh Wow: Celemony Releases Capstan

Celemony, creators of all things nearly impossible have tackled another issue that is a little less common for modern recording. Even though most of us will never come across this problem, it doesn’t make it any less impressive and anyways, that’s what this site is for right? Well that, learning, and the occasional tasteless joke. Anywho, Celemony has come out with Capstan, a program that can remove the pitch issues associated with damaged or stretched reel to reel tape. I bet you can even import in all of those VHS tapes of Yanni Live at the Acropolis you all know you have and fix all of the damaged audio, but I PRAY you’re not that into Yanni THAT much but to each his own.

For over 100 years, music has been recorded on mechanical storage mediums, and for over 100 years such recordings have been plagued by the same problems: wow and flutter. Who isn’t familiar with the wobbling and warbling, the droning and dragging? Mechanical degradation caused by defective devices or sticking tapes, by aging or defective storage. Furthermore, wow and flutter were for the most part irremediable.
Countless recordings of renowned orchestras, big bands and rock groups are currently slumbering deep in archives because precisely this problem has rendered them unusable. The tapes worthless, the recordings lost to posterity. Until now.
For with Capstan there is now for the first time a program capable of removing wow and flutter from musical recordings – whether on tape, compact cassette, wax, shellac or vinyl. Capstan detects wow and flutter by analyzing the musical material itself, so the medium is of no relevance. In this, Capstan is clearly superior to solutions such as bias tracking, because Capstan still works even if the tape has already been copied several times or digitized only in low resolution.
Being musically intelligent, the Capstan algorithm is capable of recognizing not only the minutest amounts of wow and flutter but also continuous speed variations within the musical material itself and makes possible detailed editing that extends even to drawing in the curve manually. It is based on the patented DNA Direct Note Access technology made famous by the award-winning program Melodyne, which is used worldwide in all major studios for the editing of pitch and timing.
Whilst the precise detection of the wow and flutter represents the actual technological revolution, repairing the recording is easy: the musical material is simply played back with the velocity curve inverted. Pure varispeed – guaranteed free from artifacts.

The explanation is all good and well but you should watch the video on their site.
I’m not even going to tell you the price because most of us can’t afford it but I bet Yanni can.

IK Multimedia Releases iKlip For iPad 2

I’m actually trying to write this post from my iPad with my own iKlip I have over here at EverythingRecording HQ. This post might look a little different because I’m testing Word Press for iPad. Plus it takes a little longer. So basically IK Multimedia released a new update to the wildly popular iKlip, giving it more ipaddyness (ok I don’t like that but it’s too hard to delete on here so it stays) by letting you put either an old stupid iPad OR a great, new, thinner, iPad 2. At least that’s how Apple makes you feel.
IK says:

“IK Multimedia is proud to announce that iKlip, the universal mic stand mounting kit for iPad, will soon also support the new iPad 2 with the addition of four easy snap-in adapters.
With the iKlip for iPad mounting accessory, musicians and presenters can use their original iPad or their new iPad 2 on stage, in the studio or at school, making it easy to support and operate their favorite music and presentation apps on virtually any microphone stand.
The new mounting kit maintains the same standards in strength and flexibility while taking into account the slimmer new version of Apple’s popular tablet. The snap-in adapters were specifically designed for the iPad 2’s dimensions, allowing for a perfect fit inside the mount. Thanks to the new adapters, users can mount their original iPad or iPad 2 to a mic stand quickly and easily. The new iPad 2 snap-in adapters are also available separately for existing owners of iKlip.
The iKlip’s structure also accommodates another new feature of the iPad 2, the new back-facing camera. Plus, the iKlip’s multi-angle, adjustable design allows for optimal viewing and access to all of the iPad’s controls, buttons and connection ports, and allows positioning of an iPad in both landscape and portrait orientation. Its dense, thermoplastic lightweight material ensures durability and secure holding of the iPad with most stand types.”

The iKlip for iPad/iPad 2 will be shipping in June for only $39.99/€29.99 (excluding taxes) from the IK Multimedia online store and select IK Multimedia music and electronic retailers worldwide. Previous iKlip users will be able to get the new snap-in adapters directly from IK Multimedia or selected distributors.

Just Die Already Auto-Tune

Ok so basically Auto-tune just made it to Bryan’s “Oh Just Die Already” list. Not only do we have to deal with talentless hacks raping our ears with a robot voice, NOW we have to deal with people who can’t really play guitar, playing sweep arpeggios. Nathan, I swear we’re going to have to go to war together if they make this for mandolin and violin.

DSP-based Suite of Functions Gives Unprecedented Control Over Every Element of
Guitar Performance

Antares Audio Technologies has posted a web preview of their new ATG-6 Auto-Tune
technology for guitar. The current preview provides an overview of the ATG-6 technology and focuses on its revolutionary Solid-Tune(TM)Intonation system. Future updates will focus on additional ATG-6 capabilities.
ATG-6
Incorporating world-renowned Auto-Tune pitch detection and manipulation along with
Antares’ proprietary modeling technologies, ATG-6 is an entirely DSP-based suite of
functions that offer everything guitarists have always wanted from their guitars,
along with capabilities never imagined possible. From flawless intonation to
astonishing tonal flexibility to alternate tunings that open up entirely new areas
of inspiration and creativity, ATG-6 technology seriously expands the flexibility
and range of the electric guitar while letting players continue to leverage their
hard-won traditional technique.

Ok so it doesn’t sound as bad as I thought but that’s what people said about Hitler at first too.

Arturia's Dr. Bob Package

I figured I owed it to yall to at lease post something but nothing has really come out that’s sparked my fancy. You see… I hold to my belief that if I don’t find it interesting, then you probably won’t either. So instead of posting what everyone else does, I just weed through the crap. Call this your site that only tailors to the things that don’t suck.
Now I can’t completely vouch for Arturia because I own Analog Laboratory and we all know what I think about that, review HERE, but Moogs are awesome and Arturia does know how to make old synths work in modern environments.

Arturia is proud to pay tribute to the father of electronic music by introducing a limited edition pack in collaboration with – and to the aid of – the Bob Moog Foundation.
Dr. Bob’s Collector Pack includes two of our award-winning software instruments, the Minimoog-V and the Moog Modular-V at a groundbreaking price.
It also offers a unique glimpse into Bob Moog’s life, by including an exclusive book of private archives from the Moog Foundation and a DVD documentary.
Limited Edition Box- USD 299.00 / EURO 249.00

Native Instruments: Session Strings Pro

Who doesn’t want nice strings in our songs. We all can’t have Nathan Bitgoods laying around to give us beautiful arrangements on the fly. Funny story and I don’t even think he realizes this, One time I made him sleep in my studio because I thought his talent would soak into the room and I could compose strings better, but alas I excitedly rushed to the console the next morning and could only score ana godda davida in Pro Tools… It must be all the crazy lights I have in the control room. ANYWAYS
Native Instruments have expanded on their Session Strings Library by adding the name PRO to it. Well that’s not all they did.

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS and e-instruments present SESSION STRINGS PRO — the sequel to the popular SESSION STRINGS. 20 times bigger than the original, SESSION STRINGS PRO provides a much wider sonic range, and far greater control. An 11-piece ensemble, recorded in four different settings for impeccable, flexible sound — ideal for modern pop, RnB or commercial use. Most importantly, its fluid, uniquely musical workflow makes SESSION STRINGS PRO a truly playable instrument, and much more than just a string library.

SESSION STRINGS PRO will be available at your local dealer and the NI Online Shop from June 1, 2011.

Wooo Woooo All Aboard The Gain Train

Like most things that start shipping, I very stupidly break the story long before it comes out.
American manufacturer Kush Audio has begun shipping their Gain Train, a totally transparent Class A expandable monitor controller system with a small footprint and a revolutionary price point.

The Main Gain – the system’s base module ($499 MAP) – is a two in/two out standalone monitor controller featuring independent L/R output muting, a mono switch and tri-color Peak/RMS metering.
The Function Junction module ($499 MAP) expands the system’s functionality by adding two additional stereo inputs and outputs, talkback with level control and auto program-mute, as well as dual headphone amps with independent level controls and top flight signal path. All Function Junction i/o is via a rear-panel d-sub, allowing the system to be configured for any application.
With a focus on sleek industrial design, innovative product concepts, and artistically intuitive user interfaces, Kush Audio is redefining what customers want and expect from their pro audio gear and the people who build it. Employing groundbreaking pricing strategies & unparalleled customer service & support, Kush Audio has rapidly positioned itself at the vanguard of pro audio design and manufacturing…and has every intention of staying there.

I still won’t buy one because its poo gas brown and it won’t match anything in my studio. Maybe if the make a special edition “EverythingRecording” purple edition I’ll get one.
