Beyerdynamic DT 1350 Headphones

I just feel awful about not posting updates for a day. I’m sure you already can tell just how sorry I am from the 48 text messages and 12 voicemails I sent crying “TAKE ME BAAAAAACCKKK” Oh you never left, In that case, those were a joke!!! ……*Awkward silence.
Soooooooooooo, Beyerdynamic just came out with my next set of headphones. These guys make very comfy headphones and some even come with classy velour around the ear pads. *Members only jacket and molestache not included

German audio specialist beyerdynamic launches another innovative product highlight. Handcrafted in Heilbronn, the DT 1350 is the first professional monitoring headphone in beyerdynamic’s new generation of headphones that feature Tesla technology.
The completely re-engineered Tesla drivers create a headphone which delivers an enormous degree of efficiency with extremely low levels of distortion, allowing the DT 1350 to produce a perfectly balanced, accurate sound even at the highest volumes.
A combination of highly efficient ambient noise reduction and an impressive maximum sound pressure level of 129 dB make the DT 1350 an ideal compact over-ear headphone for any environment. Regardless of whether you are a sound engineer monitoring PA systems, a live musician, or a DJ, the DT 1350 delivers every time. The perfectly balanced, accurate sound means the headphone works perfectly for every day studio use or when simply enjoying music at home or on the move. The Tesla system provides enormous power for a dynamic, undistorted sound.
Stylish, yet functional in design, the DT 1350 is manufactured in Germany using high quality materials to create a headphone that is both extremely durable and easy to use. The removable, soft ear cushions and flexible headband ensure the headphones sit securely and remain comfortable even during prolonged periods of use. The ear cups swivel 90° allowing “single-ear” monitoring.

The DT 1350 is available as of late January 2011. For more information about the DT 1350 and the Tesla technology, click HERE, Ooops, I’m a little rusty. Thats C’s website. Go there too, then click, HERE

Omni TR

My most sincere apologies for not updating in several days. I was running around like crazy trying to tie up some loose ends before I leave to head out of town. After that I’ll be back with gusto, overloading your head with more nonsense than you ever could imagine one could handle. To kick this off, I’m going to show off a great app for iPad. Omnisphere is a groundbreaking synth plug-in that has turned the music industry on it’s stupid, auto-tuned head. This app is similar to V-Control in that it utilizes the ipad to control new aspects of the newly updated Omisphere.

Spectrasonics today debuted a new app called “Omni TR” – which turns an iPad into a multi-touch control surface for Omnisphere®. The company’s award-winning flagship synthesizer is used by the world’s top professional music creators and heard in thousands of hit records, top-selling games, popular television shows and major motion pictures.
‘Touch Remote’ Concept
The new iPad app introduces Spectrasonics ‘TR’ (Touch Remote) concept – combining the tactile advantages of the iPad as a performance-oriented touch surface, with the company’s powerful computer-based virtual instruments – creating a true hands-on experience for musicians.
Omni TR brings Omnisphere’s interactive features closer to the music creation process with the ability to create setups and sound modifications very quickly. The user’s fingers can activate patches, tweak filters, re-mix, bend and spin amazing performance possibilities from the innovative new ‘Orb’ circular controller.
Interface:
With its high contrast interface, ‘Omni TR’ is perfect onstage for live performance or even in the studio where the iPad sits at the controller keyboard located away from the studio computer. Best of all, the Omni TR app is extremely easy to use, offering full two-way communication with Omnisphere with just a simple wireless connection to the computer running the plug-in.

The new “Omni TR” iPad app is compatible with both Mac and Windows systems running Spectrasonics Omnisphere v1.5 or higher and will be available free from the App Store on February 15th, 2011 (pending Apple’s review).

Mackie Onyx Blackjack and Blackbird Interfaces

“Bryan, I got on your site yesterday and you didn’t post a SINGLE update. What are you doing that’s so important you’re not updating constantly to feed my insatiable appetite for up-to-date news in the recording industry?”
Your mom!! Ohhhhh!!! You walked right into that one… On a more serious note… that’s gross… also, I’m working on important things to benefit you. Look Mackie has some new interfaces. *Throws rock to distract and runs.

Mackie today announces two new premium recording interfaces, additions to the popular Onyx family — the Onyx Blackjack and Onyx Blackbird. These powerful new interfaces combine the sonic benefits of Mackie’s proven Onyx mic preamps with high-end Cirrus Logic® AD/DA converters and workflow-friendly features that are perfect for people starting or expanding upon their studio.
“Our new Onyx interfaces offer unmatched recording quality,” remarked Mackie Product Manager, Matt Redmon. “The Onyx preamps alone are far superior to anything in this price range. Combined with the high-end converters and workflow-friendly features and design…the value is undeniable.”
The Onyx Blackjack is an ultra-compact desktop 2×2 USB interface, perfect for the home studio. It features two acclaimed Onyx mic preamp channels, each featuring built-in DIs for connecting guitars, etc. Separate level control for studio monitors and headphones, along with true analog hardware monitoring take the guesswork out of zero-latency recording. It is bus-powered, with a rugged, ergonomic chassis perfect for both portable and home studio applications.
The rackmount Onyx Blackbird delivers studio-grade recording via eight Onyx mic preamps. A 16×16 FireWire interface, Blackbird also features 8×8 ADAT and wordclock I/O, providing ultimate expandability. There are two “Super Channels” on the front panel with dedicated low-cut switches, phantom power and true hardware monitoring options for quick zero-latency tracking. The other channels are equally flexible, utilizing the powerful Blackbird Control DSP Matrix Mixer for quick setup of independent mixes and the ability to route any input to any output. Monitor, main, alt and dual headphone outs with dedicated source selection and level control ensures there are plenty of mix routing options.
The Onyx Blackjack and Onyx Blackbird are Mac/PC compatible, work with most major DAWs and include Tracktion 3 Music Production Software. The Onyx Blackjack and Onyx Blackbird are now available worldwide.

The Onyx Blackjack has a U.S. MSRP of $259.99 and the Onyx Blackbird has a U.S. MSRP of $629.99. For more info, click HERE
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be back to working on making this site even more ridiculous and informative as ever.

Mackie's New MR mkII Series

The original MR5’s are great monitors. Why you ask? Well because I own them and I am great. I also once owned Yanni Live at the Acropolis so I think we all agree that you’re in the presence of greatness. Also because Mackie has decided to go ahead and improve on an already great set of monitors.

Redefining the concept of the affordable studio reference monitor  Mackie today announces a complete redesign of its bestselling line of ultra-affordable powered studio monitors – the MRmk2 Mackie Reference Monitors. Featuring class-leading power with unmatched clarity and definition at its price point, the new series is sure to please those looking for a professional monitoring solution for project studios, edit suites and home theatres alike.
“Mackie is well known for delivering professional monitoring solutions at affordable prices,” remarked Mackie Product Manager, Matt Redmon. “Our new MRmk2 monitors deliver on all fronts, from an extended low-frequency response unmatched in their category, to the clear definition of mids and highs upon which engineers stake their reputations.”
Mackie MRmk2 studio monitors feature all-new professional transducers specifically designed to match their respective amplification. Both models employ a 1? neodymium magnet-driven soft dome tweeter featuring ferro-fluid cooling to help protect against power compression during wide dynamic playback. The 5.25? (MR5mk2) and 8? (MR8mk2) hyperbolic-curved cone woofers reduce severe cone resonances, drastically minimizing distortion.
The powerful, precision Class A/B amplifier section features XLR, TRS and RCA connectivity, along with user-adjustable acoustic controls for simple room correction. The robust cabinet is rear-ported, reducing distortion, and features an optimally-sized custom Waveguide and molded baffle, offering balance to the HF / LF content while increasing both the stereo imaging and depth of field.

The Mackie MRmk2 Series Powered Studio Monitors will be available worldwide February, 2011. The MR5mk2 will have a U.S. MSRP of $199.99 and MR8mk2 will have a U.S. MSRP of $329.99. That’s a little more than the MR5’s but I bet its worth it. For more detailed product information, click Here.

Auralex Sonolite

Auralex is the leader in sound treatment for home and professional studios and they’ve just made all of our lives a little easier. I’ve read tons of how-to’s and instructional videos on how to build the homeade panels and honestly, at the point I’d rather make music than sit there and attempt to be Bob Villa. Plus I know they say they’re cost effective but these panels are only $25.00 A PIECE!!!! That right there is worth spending to avoid trying to stretch fabric perfectly over my shoddy craftsmanship. Wood isn’t cheap and if you own a home studio or theater room, you know you have to have sound treatment on the wall and you want it to look good. Just look how classy those panels are.

SonoLite is a 2′ x 2′ x 1″ fabric-wrapped StudiofoamPro panel, available in either black or beige, with squared edges. These panels provide an overall Noise Coefficient Rating (NRC) of 0.75. Auralex Acoustics will be offering SonoLite for $24.99 per panel.

And as we all know, I don’t sell add space or have any secret deals with any companies. I believe in this product. So much that if you want, I can send you a very pricey bill for the Auralex I just bought last weekend for my control room. Now Auralex has eliminated all excuses not to buy, including the price, so as soon as these come out, buy buy buy.
Price: $24.99 per panel

Electro-Voice RE-320

Alright folks, I’m back. And to kick off my return, I’m going to show you the possible next addition to the studio. The RE-320 is based off of a drummer’s staple, the RE-20. This mic is also a workhorse in the broadcast industry, most of the crap you hear today’s DJs spew across the airwaves probably was vomited into an RE-20. So if it can withstand that type of abuse, it can pretty much handle anything. The thing that makes this mic different is that it has a switch that they’ve basically put on the mic to adjust the EQ curve to accommodate a vast array of acoustic instruments and voice.
Up until now I’ve just banked on getting MD421’s but I think I might buy a few of these instead for kick and toms. Plus its cheaper too

The RE320 is a professional quality dynamic microphone designed specifically for recording and sound reinforcement applications requiring extremely low noise and the highest level of predictable tonal and transient response. Ideal for capturing vocal and instrument sources, the RE320 delivers unparalleled detail, dynamic content, and natural tone.
Variable D® is Electro-Voice’s exclusive solution to the tonal changes associated with the proximity effect found in other directional microphones. Providing balanced and uniform frequency response up to 180° off-axis, the result is always stable and linear tonal performance — even when the sound source is moving around the mic. Ideal for capturing the critical details of voice, amplified, and acoustic instruments, Variable-D® capsules deliver impeccably smooth and natural tone on virtually any sound source.
Utilizing the same humbucking coil technology found in the RE20 and RE27N/D to arrest electro magnetic field interference introduced by sources close “to the microphone”, the RE320 produces an ultra-quiet signal path free from the hum and buzz found in other dynamic microphones.
The RE320 incorporates a two-position “Dual Personality” frequency response switch which allows engagement of two vastly different performance curves.

Maybe they should get ol’ crazy Golden Voice to endorse this bad boy once he gets out of rehab.
MSRP: $499.95 with an estimated street price of $299.00 USD.

Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite

Universal Audio is starting to catch on to something Avid should take note of, Portability. I’m sure there are plenty of people like myself who would like to run Pro Tools HD from a laptop. Well the UAD-2 Satellite takes that concept and uses it to fuel their plug-in bundles with Firewire (given you use mac, which I’m sure most of you do.) For all of the people who are either newcomers to recording or people who read this for my nonsense, the concept behind this is companies can make more powerful software if they add a piece of hardware to handle the processing of said software. Most companies only make the software for desktop computers but a few smart companies are catering to the home studio or portable rig. See people, you can laugh and learn at the same time, but not in school because the teacher will yell at you and question your fashion sense. Look, Mrs Rodriquez, grunge was in and it wasn’t a dress, it was a flannel shirt tied around my waist. Ok is was a blouse BUT in my defense my mom and dad’s closet was the same.

iZotope Releases Stutter

Finally, they make a program I’ve wanted for years. I’ve spent hours in the studio chopping up guitar and vocal tracks manually to get that choppy electronic sound, but like me picking my nose and wiping it under whatever studio console I’m at, those days are long gone. Side note to NRG Studios, your Neve 8068 has a present underneath from THE Bryan Adams.
Basically what this program does is chop whatever audio you have in a track into pieces and arranges it to the beat, thus turning your vocal track or guitar track into a rhythmic piece of glorious goodness. You can also use this live, which makes this a MUST have for DJs and performers alike who are looking for a new sound in their performance. Wanna see it in action? Sure ya do, Here ya go

iZotope has released Stutter Edit, its first collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated composer and electronic musician Brian Transeau (BT). Stutter Edit’s features revolve around an innovative live sampling engine that lets producers, laptop performers and other musicians manipulate audio in real-time. Stutter Edit slices audio into small fragments and sequences the pieces into razor-sharp rhythmic effects, recreating techniques that once took hours to perfect in the studio. Results can range from jarring to subtle: a melody can be disintegrated into a syncopated rhythmic roll, or a drum hit can be transformed into an arpeggiated scale of pitches. The complex set of tools in Stutter Edit is balanced by an elegant MIDI control scheme, which makes adding effects a completely intuitive process—much like playing an instrument.
